We are all driven. When cavemen roamed the Earth they were driven to survive. In the late 1700’s Americans were driven to be free. In the 1950’s they were driven to succeed. And even now, we are driven to be happy.
Essentially, all of those end goals are the same. There’s a destination that we want to get to and we are going to work our asses off to get there.
Think about how often you are striving for “the end.” The carrot at the end of the stick.
“If I work hard enough, I can relax.”
“If I wait long enough, I will get my turn.”
“If I yell loud enough, I will win this battle.”
But nothing will change.
There is no end in sight.
This is life. Life will keep going. It went on well before you were here and it will continue long after you’re gone.
I’ve been caught up in the search for the end many times in my life. In fact, I’m still trying hard to convince myself there is no end.
Are you living in a temporary world?
What are your goals right now? What’s something you wished you had or a situation you wish you were in but for some reason you’re not?
Do you have a bucket list? Do you have dreams or aspirations? Why are you not chasing those right now?
Is it because you don’t have the money? Maybe it’s because you need to know different people to help you start. Or maybe you just don’t feel like it.
It seems as though many people I know, including myself at times, put things off because conditions aren’t ideal. We’re placing ourselves in this temporary world until the stars align perfectly to put ourselves out there.
The problem though is that there will never be a perfect time. And by putting yourself in this temporary world not only are you putting life on hold, but you’re telling your brain that once you finally do this thing…that’s it. Game over. Life completed successfully.
But that’s anything but the truth.
Life will go on. There is no destination in life.
There are only achievements, successes, and legacies. Times when you meet a goal you set, are personally fulfilled by that achievement, and the story you leave behind when you’re gone.
If you live your life right, there will never be an end – a destination. For when you live your life the way you should, even after you’re gone, your legacy moves on. Pushing others to stray from the temporary hole they are commonly being pushed toward.
Your life should be anything but temporary. It is ever-changing – always going. Learn something new every day. Fall out of routine. Break rules. And follow what you know inside of you is right.
To be caught up in a temporary rest stop in life where everything gets put on hold is a slap in the face of whatever God you choose. It’s a self-abortion from life. You don’t owe it to yourself to make something of your life. You owe it to me – to us.
Stop living life for the outcome. At least not the “end” outcome. Live life to LIVE LIFE. To experience what this world has to offer and take from it everything you possibly can. Just know that when you take everything you can from the world knowing there is no destination, you give it more than you could ever imagine taking.
Get out there. Push forward. God damnit, do something amazing. Because, if you don’t do what you’re meant to do…who will?
